Johnsonville Refurbishment
|
|
Wellington
residents passing
through Johnsonville
recently will have
noticed the recent
transformation of
the old Countdown
supermarket. FPL Building
was proud to be involved
in the conversion
of this prominent
Johnsonville landmark
into a new, modern
Woolworths store.
Gone are the famous
animated, talking
food characters and
farm like structures
from around the supermarket.
Replaced with sleek,
modern features and
finishes. The rustic
exterior has been
transformed with the
removal of the barn
like features and
the introduction of
new canopies, glazing
and aluminium cladding
panels.
In association with
project managers,
Arrow International,
Freear Philip Ltd
successfully completed
this difficult building
contract within the
very short programme
specified. With careful
planning and good
cooperation between
client and contractor
the supermarket was
able to maintain full
and uninterrupted
operations throughout
the refurbishment.
FPL Building established
two carpentry teams
and a demolition crew
working separate shifts
in order to achieve
the programme and
minimise disruption
to the store. Work
in public areas was
carried out after
the store closed at
10pm and cleaned up
ready for shoppers
at 7am in the morning.
The new shop fitout
included a completely
reconstructed bakery
and deli both completed
to a tight timetable.
The meat and produce
sections were totally
reconfigured and the
checkout area modernised.
New office areas were
constructed to accommodate
relocated administration
facilities and an
area of the store
partitioned off to
house a new instore
chemist shop.
Woolworths NZ Ltd
is delighted with
their new store and
have noted an increase
in sales as a result
of the refurbishment.
