Alissa's
Patisserie
Courtenay Place
The proprietor of
this very popular
Wellington Patiserrie
saw an opportunity
to service the ever-increasing
thirst Wellingtonians
have developed for
good coffee while
improving the appearance
of the existing shop
frontage.
The Freear Philip
design studio accepted
this challenging brief
and set about formulating
a design concept that
would meet the functional
requirements of the
patiserrie and improve
street appeal. Space
within the shop was
very limited making
it critical to provide
a solution that worked
efficiently and was
comfortable ergonomically.

Within a very
small area access
was required to a
coffee machine and
grinder, a paninni
grille, a cash register,
servery counters within
the shop and onto
the street and to
the product storage
cabinets. |

During the obvious
busy periods when
hungry customers want
serving it is critical
that that this service
is delivered as quickly
as possible.
The excellent location
of the patiserrie
along Courtenay Place
provided a fantastic
opportunity to display
their wonderful goodies
to the busy street
enticing potential
customers passing
by. The shop front
was redesigned to
provide refrigerated
display visible from
the street with the
facility to serve
directly onto the
pavement. This was
considered an important
requirement for the
success of the new
coffee service aimed
at the busy customer
on the run.
Polished jarrah timber
was selected for the
counter tops and trims.
The strong colouring
and grain suits the
richness of the coffee
and sits well against
the karaka green aluminium
joinery and stainless
steel.
The owner of the
patiserrie is very
pleased with the outcome
and has noted a 10%
increase in turnover
as a result.
