Working in close proximity to a registered heritage building, the 85 year old All Saints Church created some unique challenges for Freear Philip during the construction of the new All Saints Centre.

The project involved the demolition of an existing church hall which was in a state of severe disrepair and the construction of a new, modern facility for the parish. The new centre includes a gathering space for 200, a smaller informal gathering space, offices for the parish administration, services areas and a kitchen.

A striking feature of the interior is the exposed LVL timber beams and columns with expressed connection details. One of the challenges that the site team had to overcome was placing the beams on site. This required craning the prefabricated beams over the top of the existing church. A task that increased stress levels on site but which was carried our successfully through careful preparation and a great crane driver.
